Physical Education
Physical Education Intent Statement
At Binbrook Church of England Primary School, we recognise the values that a high-quality Physical Education (PE) and school sports curriculum gives pupils. We want to nurture personal talents, discover new ones and encourage everyone to “be the best they can be”.
When teaching the PE curriculum, we aim to develop the enjoyment of the physical activity and strive to improve the importance of health and well-being. Our intention is to give children the opportunities to develop their skills, knowledge and understanding and apply these in competitive situations, with the vision this provides them with lifelong learning skills. We strive to ensure that all our pupils receive a well-rounded learning experience when participating in different sporting activities, learning the importance of health and well-being and equipping them with the necessary values and tools to achieve in our school and beyond. We aim to engage pupils in the possibilities of sport to develop a passion for being active, healthy and the confidence to try new things and build resilience and determination with all they do.
We endeavour to provide high-quality PE and sports teaching in both curriculum and after school clubs. We aim to ensure that within their own level of ability all children can achieve and experience success, thereby enabling them to reach their full potential.
JB Sport Coaching at Binbrook Church of England Primary School
Our school has a long standing partnership with the team at JB.
Read about their high quality sports provision below:
Our aim at JB’s Sport Coaching is to provide the highest possible level of primary physical education services. In doing so we hope to ensure that all primary school children have the opportunity to regularly partake in enjoyable physical exercise, with the overall aim of ensuring that all primary school children we work with are physically literate.
Our services and initiatives are aligned to the key findings and recommendations of Ofsted, as well as key factors considered when evaluating the use of the primary school sport funding and the positive effect of regular physical education for primary school children.
JB’s staff members are all primary physical education specialists with a vast knowledge and experience of the primary P.E curriculum. We are proud to say that we were the first company in Lincolnshire to undertake the 1st 4 Sport Level 3 course devised by AfPE (Association for Physical Education). The new Guidelines set by AfPE raise the standard of primary P.E delivery and subject knowledge and the Level 3 course has now surpassed the NGB level 2 awards for the minimum expected standards. As a result of the course our staff are fully qualified to deliver all areas of the national curriculum. Our planning, delivery and assessments are all based around an outstanding Ofsted framework. Holding this qualification equates to HLTA status, which allows all staff to independently deliver, with all schools safe in the knowledge that their provision is being delivered by a primary PE specialist. As well as the Level 3 qualification, all JB’s staff members regularly undertake subject specific courses to further enhance their subject knowledge.
JB Sport Coaching continue to help our school to develop teaching expertise in the following; gymnastics, healthy lifestyles, football, hockey, netball, athletics, cricket, tag rugby and much more. The team at JB also provide our top up swimming coaching every year!
Mr Johnson, our JB Sports Coach also holds a regular weekly lunchtime and one Key Stage 1 and one Key Stage 2 afterschool sports clubs
Binbrook Church of England School has worked alongside the team at JB Sports Coaching to develop a curriculum that is sequenced and well planned to aid knowledge and skills progression in each subject so that pupils can achieve expected or a higher standard in PE in readiness for the next stage in their PE education (see attached documents below).

Celebrating out-of-school sporting achievements
Our children are encouraged to tell us all about their out-of-school sporting experiences and achievements during our weekly celebration Collective Worship.
Their photographs are taken and added to our whole school sporting achievement display board.
We have learnt about achievements in the following sports: Cricket, Boys and Girls Football, Ballet, Boys and Girls Rugby, Taekwondo and Swimming. These are just some examples!
