School Governor Roles and Responsibilities

Binbrook C of E Primary School Governor Roles and Responsibilities

The Governors of Binbrook C of E Primary School are volunteers who carry overall responsibility for the school. The Full Governing Body meets six times a year and is made up of representatives from those who work at the school, parents and the local community, including the church.

There are three specific committees:  Finance Committee (meets once a half term, and feeds back at the half-termly Full Governing Body meeting). There is also a Head Teacher Performance Management Committee and a Pay Committee (both meet annually).

All matters are discussed in line with the core functions of a Governing Body:

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
  • Holding the Head Teacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils and the performance management of staff
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure it is money well spent

Through both challenge and support, the Governing Body ensure the best possible education for the children in the school.

Current roles and responsibilities and terms of reference for each committee are detailed in documents attached on the "Governing Body" page.

The Full Governing Body ratifies decisions following recommendation from the committees referred to above (unless otherwise stated in School Policy/Terms of Reference/Scheme of Delegation), and all minutes are available in the school office with the exception of confidential minutes.
